I found a small rock whilst rummaging around my box of....rocks. And stumbled upon a fragment of turtle shell! I related it to those at the local museum, and they turned out to be fragments of shell! I also found 2 or 3 chrinoid fossils, one is a beautiful stem.
Any insights? I live in northern Illinois, so are these common?

Thats really cool. Mostly I find shells and chrinoids, that sort of thing but those are typical of NY.

Here's a list of crinoids found near your county, although I can't find any crinoids from your county or the counties adjacent to it. You might have something important there! Got a photo to show off?
Calceocrinus Eohalysiocrinus Myelodactylus Kanabinocrinus Dimerocrinites Siphonocrinus Calliocrinus Clonocrinus Eucalyptocrinites Periechocrinus Icthyocrinus Lampterocrinus Crotalocrinites Melocrinites Zophocrinus Pisocrinus Thalamocrinus Gissocrinus Lecanocrinus Mysticocrinus Pycnosaccus
