Well, the ads sucked me in. I guess I'm so used to using a computer with AdBlock Plus installed on it that I notice ads now when I use another computer. I tried out Evony today and have been on it now for over 3 hours...it's addictive. Basically you build your own city and work with the rest of your empire to conquer other cities and defeat other empires. I'm playing as a character named Swallow, hailing from Africa. What's neat is it's realtime, kind of like Aquarium Tycoon. So while your computer is turned off and you're in class, your citizens are working hard chopping, farming, mining, and casting iron. I'm not sure how it handles wars yet, since I haven't built up my army... The other neat thing is it really is free. So long as you don't buy credits. Buying credits just gives you boosters and stuff so you can build faster and all for a couple hours. If you join, go to the Lower Lorraine state and join the Crete-IV alliance so you won't be my enemy...

I might try it, but I'm caught up in to many things already, and when school starts I'll barely be able to handle what I do now, so probably not.

Those ads make it look ridiculous. Is it really that good? Forgot to say: I played Travian a while back. Same idea, but everyone kept invading me and taking my resources. I couldn't build an army, so I just quit.

Mmm...it's decent. The first couple days require a bit of attention, but after that I got to where I only needed to log in a few minutes each day. Eventually I'll finish building up my two cities I've got now and start invading other cities. It's nowhere near as exciting as, say, Age of Empires. And yes, the ads are dumb...but they're much better than they used to be.
The ads used to be really perverted. I never saw the older ones, but apparently they showed girls clothed really scantily and the girls got progressively more scanty in each release of ads until they were naked. That really puts me off knowing that they'd do that. Thankfully those ads don't appear anymore. (I definitely wouldn't click on a pornographic ad!)
When I first joined, I hadn't heard of those ads...the one I clicked on had a seductive photo of a hot girl on it that was reasonably clothed. Said something about "your queen awaits you" or something along those lines. There is no queen...major disappointment. The only females portrayed are not even hot.
Glad to see their ads are improving, though.

I don't think they've ever had completely nude ads but they might as well had. I won't play it and the advertisements are one of the reasons why. The worst ads had scantily clad women, the clothing not even period relevant. Some just showed cleavage. I like scantily clad women when appropriate but seriously?

I hate those ads. They annoy me, I NEVER click on them, they always lie. I prefer ads where they talk about what's REALLY in the game. Is it online? I'm sick of other people invading my cities.

Yup, it's online. If others invading your city makes you angry, you probably wouldn't enjoy it. The only way to really avoid that is a) join a really big no-name alliance with no enemies or b) don't sign up in the first place.

I'll stick to Spore. I love destroying my enemies with de-terraforming. I love it when almost all the colonies on the homeworld explode!

As much as I don't mind the ads, I really don't get how they are supposed to relate to the game.

If someone could explain that, then perhaps general relativity could exist...

Sadly enough, it does. That's why Transformers 2 was a box office success. It had a terrible plot, bad actors, and wasn't a worthy sequel. Most people went to see it because of Megan Fox.
