To download the latest copy of the Great Checklist, right-click the link below and save it.
DO NOT left-click it. This may cause you to inadvertently download an old copy. I know it doesn't make sense, but just trust me.
The Great Checklist
(NOTE: If your computer tries to save it with a .ZIP extenstion, change the filename to end in .XLSB instead. I'm not sure why this happens on some computers.)
If you like, you may read the documentation as well. It explains everything you want to know about the file.
Documentation
If you don't have Excel 2007, you'll need to have Excel Viewer 2007 installed:
If you have troubles, a PDF copy is also available. WARNING: The PDF file is very large and may take some time to download. Again, please right-click and save as left-clicking may cause you to inadvertently download an older copy. If you don't have a copy of Adobe Acrobat, you'll need Adobe Reader to view the file:
What the Great Checklist is:
Awhile back, I began making a list of dinosaurs I had added to the Prehistoria Sporecast Collection. Then I was challenged to come up with a list of all the dinosaurs that hadn't been done yet. So I began creating a list. It was huge, with thousands of dinosaur species.
That list was very long and difficult to navigate. Someone suggested I separate the theropods, sauropods, etc. At first, I resisted, since the text file format didn't lend itself well to that. I started adding non-dinosaurs to the list, which created an even bigger demand for the separation. One thing led to another, and now there's a binary Excel spreadsheet being updated several times a week with details including the class, order, family, and period of each species.
I'll try to keep you guys updated as to when I've uploaded a new copy, as well as what's new in that copy.
