It's the first of the weekly polls! I'll probably be posting a new poll every Thurdsay. Feel free to discuss in this thread. There is no way I could ever remember my first book but I voted children's encyclopedia as it's one of the first I remember. It was also a story book though as I remember the first half having the stories and the second having the actual encyclopedia. Can't remember the title but it was probably published in the late 70's-80's and is probably no longer in print. I also recall a hard cover book with seriously dated artwork. I wish I still had that for historical reasons, I don't think it was a childrens book but I liked the artwork. I remember having a dinosaur ABC book as well. The book I remember the best and loved as a child was Dougal Dixon's Dinosaurs published in 1993. www.amazon.com/Dougal-Dixons-Dinosaurs-Dixon/dp/1563972611

Some of my favorite books as a kid were dinosaur encyclopedias, but I wouldn't tolerate the kids' encyclopedias. I wanted the cold, hard fact encyclopedias with dinosaurs I'd never heard of. I don't remember the name of the book we had at home, but I'm thinking it was published by either DK or Knopf. It had nearly full-page illustrations and cold, hard facts written for adults. I didn't read much of it, just looked at pictures with blue and red 3-D glasses on, even though it wasn't 3-D. That was back when I had just discovered book pages were printed on four times- once in yellow, then in magenta, then in cyan, then in black. Those were the days...every book had magenta, yellow, and cyan lines surrounding the borders of its pictures...

I honestly can't remember what mine was. Though I would suspect is was some sort of encyclopedia.

(Click to see Schnautzr's first dinosaur book)I don't know if it was my first, but I had and still have that book. I have the whole series in fact, as well as two of the videos. I used to love those books.
