Has anyone seen Cope's erroneous depiction of Elasmosaurus? I learned about it today and thought it was interesting. Credit: Cope, 1860s, public domain. This article is a very good read, so I figured I'd share it with everyone: www.oceansofkansas.com/Tale-tail.html

Ocean of Kansas is a great site, you could waste days on that thing. I really need to get the book. As for old artwork, check out Edward Newman's 1843 drawing of marsupial pterosaurs.

What puzzles me is the accurate looking pterosaurs in the background.

Look closely...they have ears, too. But their noses are definitely longer. I suppose Newman was comparing them to bats. There is a lot of resemblance.

Yeah, I guess those are ears. I thought they were head crests at first.
